| Green-breasted Mango:
Greenwood, Caddo Parish, LA, August 20, 2009. This is a first state
record for Louisiana. This bird has not been positively identified
as a Green-breasted Mango because there are two other species for which
the females are virtually indistinguishable in the field. They are
the: Black-throated Mango and the Green-throated Mango.
Females and juvenile birds of a species are often difficult to
distinguish. This individual is most probably a juvenile of one of
these species. It is probably a Green-breasted Mango because of the
proximity of its range in Mexico to the United States. I am hoping
the the Louisiana Bird Records Committee will be able to positively
identify it from the many photos that were taken while it remained at the
Greenwood residence. This mango remained at the residence only one
afternoon. |
