Broad-winged Skipper (female): Broadmoor Terrace, Shreveport, May 4, 2012.  In Caddo Parish this butterfly is found mainly at the edges of water in giant cutgrass (Zizaniopsis miliacea ) which is its host plant.  This grass grows from six to nine feet tall with blades about one inch wide.  If you run your fingers upward along the edges of the blade it could cut you because of its saw-like edges.  It can be found at the edges of most bodies of water in Caddo Parish.
