Moths of Northwestern Louisiana--Jeff Trahan

Chickweed Geometer Moth
Northwestern Louisiana includes several parishes:  Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, Bienville, DeSoto, Red River, and Natchitoches Parishes.  I have not found moths in all of these parishes, but I hope to do that.  Whenever I've seen moths in the wild, I have tried to photograph them, but recently I've begun photographing them in earnest.  I set up a blacklight in my yard and take photos of all of the new moths that are attracted the light.  I mainly use the Moth Photographers Group website to identify them, but when a moth is particularly difficult to identify, I send it to BugGuide.  The volunteers there are often very helpful with identification.  Note that there are probably 1000 species of moth in this area.  At this time I have photos of 689 of them.  There is a long way to go to complete this site.  I also include moth caterpillars in this website.  If I have a photo of the moth associated with that caterpillar, the moth will come first.  Rosemary Seidler, Charles Lyon, and Vicki LeFevers are also contributing photos to this site.
